Clearwire introduces WiMax services in Spain

Clearwire Corp. introduced its commercial WiMAX services in Malaga, Spain. The wireless services are provided under the brand name 'Instanet' and are the first 4G service by the operator in Europe.

According to Clearwire, instanet service is capable of providing downloading speeds of 3 Mbps to 6 Mbps depending upon the plan. The subscribers can access Clearwire's WiMax service in Malaga with or without a service contract.

The initial price for the service is said to be $43 per month. But, the company has announced a lifetime discount of 50 per cent for customers subscribing for a combination of services like home as well as mobile service.

Mr. Gilberto Sánchez, managing director of Clearwire Spain, said in a statement that the customers in Malaga could access the Internet services immediately at affordable rates and without the drawbacks and limitations of the traditional ADSL services.

Clearwire said that it would implement WiMAX 802.16e infrastructure equipment from ZTE and Alvarion in the 3.5GHz band.

The company also owns 3.5 GHz licenses in some other European countries such as Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Denmark and Romania.
