Formula One star Michael Schumacher spent a second day behind the wheel of the GP2 Series “development” car at Spain's Jerez circuit but bad weather intervened once again.
The track was wet at the beginning and at the end of the day. Schumacher finished 78 laps and 53 of which were on slick tires. However, it was below the mileage than he expected as he worked hard to get back in the groove and give his neck--injured in a motorcycle racing crash almost one year ago--a good test.
In the meantime, the player worked on rear-suspension settings for the GP2 machine, which will be revised with a new model in 2011.
While talking to media, he said, “We made a big step forward today as we were able to drive for around 90 percent of the time in the dry, which was an improvement on the track conditions from yesterday.”
Further, the 41-year-old German said, “We achieved two long runs which went very well and provided consistent data for the GP2 guys to evaluate. The forecast looks even better for tomorrow so we can look forward to a good final day.”
On the other hand, GP2 technical director Didier Perrin said, “Despite the weather this has been a productive day, which was vital as we could not really complete our program on the first day. Thanks to Michael’s impressive feedback we now have the technical orientations for the rear suspension. Hopefully tomorrow’s weather will allow us to add more long runs to our program, and give us even more information for the next car.”
