Anti-smoking Ban law under fire in Spain

While talking to reporters, the Minister of Health and Social Policy, Trinidad Jimenez announced that the government would not lift the tobacco ban in the country as some leader of the Popular Party proposed.
Moreover, the minister told media that his department is working to study the consequences of using tobacco, resulting around 55,000 deaths every year and between 1,500 and 3,000 indirectly and to secure the health of others, with a smoke-free environment.
He said, “For the hospitality sector, the new law will result in the partial closures of bars and restaurants, however the minister acknowledged that in other European countries that have introduced similar reforms.”
Further, talking to reporters about financing treatments for quitting smoking, the minister said that his department is closely monitoring the effectiveness of present drug therapies for smoking cessation and also few communities are already holding trials with those smokers regarded as ‘high dependency’.
Moreover, the Spanish Health and Social minister said, “We offer information and training, and then everyone then gets what he wants.”
He also added, “The mention of cybersex as a way to avoid sexually transmitted diseases is not an opinion of the Ministry, but surveys are reflecting the views of the citizenry.”
