Barry Callebaut to acquire Spanish rival Chocovic

Barry Callebaut, the world's largest chocolate maker, announced that it is going to buy its Spanish rival Chocovic from Nederland Group.

The details regarding the acquisition were not disclosed yet, but, the deal is expected to occur by the end of 2009.

Barry Callebaut said in a statement that the acquisition is a part of its plan to expand core business with industry and with artisans, and to increase its geographical reach.

Chocovic possess a specialization in chocolate and other products for industry and for artisanal customers.

Chocovic’s annual sale is about 60 million euros, and has about 120 employees.

Barry Callebaut also said that the Nederland Group would remain owner of its other activities, which includes Moner Cocoa and a cocoa processor.
