Spain records highest cocaine intake in EU

According to the latest reports issued by the European Union’s Drug agency, Spain is the largest consumer of cocaine in European Union. Around 3.1% of the national population of Spain has admitted that they had taken cocaine in the past year.

However, there is slight decrease in the consumption of the marijuana. 1.1% of people have accepted that they had consumed cocaine in the past month.

According to the report, “This is small progress, there is still much to do”.

During the last four of five years, Spain’s cocaine consumption has stabilized after recording a huge hike in the years before.

Meanwhile, around 10.1 percent of the Spaniards aged between 15 to 64 years hasve accepted that they had consumed marijuana in the past year, while 11.2 percent have admitted a year before. About 7.1 percent admitted to have used it in the last month as compared to 8.7 percent a year ago.

While talking to reporter, director of the drug monitoring body Wolfgang Goetz said, “Cocaine’s easy availability in the European market was one of the reasons for its spread”.
