Telefonica aims 400 million euros for TV stake

Telefonica is aiming to pay 400 million euros ($594.1 million) or 450 million for a 20 percent stake in indebted media group Prisa’s pay TV unit Digital+.

According to the sources, Europe’s biggest telecom firm has been in talks for many months to acquire the stake.

Further, the reports said that Telefonica could make a final decision by the coming week.

EI Economista has place a price tag of 400 million euros on the 20% equity, whereas fellow business Expansion estimated it would cost 450 million.

Prisa has been selling resources to try to pay off some of its 5 million euro debt pile and redesign its media business.

However, the media group has discarded a joint bid from Telefonica and Viviendi for Digital+ last year as too low.

Telefonica has announced that it is still interested in a minority stake in Digital+ with a partner. However, it is not clear that whether it might acquire a stake alone or in concert.
