The new German coalition government led by Chancellor Angela Merkel was in confusion over the issue of state aid for Opel, while other European Union states with Opel factories had pledged more than euro 1 billion.
According to the statement, ahead of a visit by new General Motors (GM) Europe chief Nick Reilly to Brussels, Spain, Britain and Belgium had offered state aid 300-500 million euros each to return Opel to profitability.
However, Britain told that aid of about 400 million euro was feasible, Spain had said that it would discover a similar amount, Belgium had bid 500 million euro and Poland had offered tax incentives.
On the other hand, German Economy Minister Rainer Bruederle told his opposition to offering GM government money for Opel.
Earlier this month, GM has reversed its decision to sell Opel, and announced that it required around 3.3 billion in European state aid to fix its German operations.
